Joy Omewa Shines Despite Forest Defeat

Omewa wasted no time making an impact at Nottingham Forest, finding the net on her debut against Birmingham City Women.

The 23-year-old forward, who joined Forest ladies on a permanent deal until the end of the 2025/26 season, briefly brought her team level after falling behind early.

The Tricky Trees conceded in the 22nd minute to Georgia Brougham, but Omewa’s sharp instincts turned the tide momentarily.

She chased down a long pass from Chloe Mustaki, outpaced her marker, and finished calmly to make it 1-1 just before halftime.

Unfortunately, Birmingham regained control immediately after the break, with Wilma Leidhammer scoring in the 47th minute.

Omewa nearly struck again in the 54th minute but was blocked, before being substituted in the 64th minute. The hosts sealed a 5–1 victory with a late hat-trick from Lisa Lindström.

The Nigerian forward previously scored over 50 goals in five years with Fortuna Hjørring, helping them win the Danish Women’s Cup twice and the Kvindeligaen league title in the 2024/25 season.

She was also named Player of the Season that year.

Forest now look ahead to their next match against Charlton on 8 February, where Omewa will aim to continue her promising start in WSL 2.

Babajide’s Last-Minute Heroics Rescue Roma

In Italy, Babajide produced a dramatic performance for AS Roma Women. Coming off the bench in the 59th minute against Parma, the 27-year-old injected pace and energy into Roma’s attack.
