The Teachers’ Recruitment Programme of the KAGOTE Educational Intervention Committee has officially taken its train of accreditation/orientation exercise for newly recruited volunteer teachers to Eleme Local Government Area.
The exercise, which has been ongoing since the beginning of June, was scheduled to go round all four local government areas in Ogoni. It marks a significant step in the Committee’s broader mission to strengthen basic education across Ogoniland through strategic interventions aimed at addressing manpower shortages in public schools.

Speaking during the orientation programme on Monday, June 15, 2026, the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Obarilormate Ollor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Peter Chutte, lauded KAGOTE for initiating what he described as a timely and impactful educational intervention.
The Council boss eulogized the benefits of the initiative and pledged his administration’s support, noting that the programme would not only provide meaningful opportunities for the volunteer teachers, but also help shape the future of children across the local government area.

“As the Chairman of this Local Government Area, I will give you all the necessary support needed to ensure that this dream becomes a reality,” he stated.
Responding, Chairman of the KAGOTE Educational Intervention Committee, Bodo Addo, emphasized the critical role of primary education as the foundation of societal development. He expressed concern over the declining standard of primary education in Ogoniland, stressing the need for collective efforts to reverse the trend.
Addo urged the volunteer teachers to approach their assignments with commitment and professionalism, disclosing that a monitoring team would be established to evaluate performance, dedication, and conduct in the course of carrying out their duties.
On his part, the Secretary of the Committee, Cyprian Kpakol, while addressing the gathering, charged the teachers to serve as positive role models for the pupils, noting that children are highly impressionable and often tend to replicate the attitudes and behaviours of their teachers.
Furthermore, a Committee member, Mrs. Mmaebe, encouraged the teacher recruits to foster healthy relationships with their pupils and demonstrate empathy in dealing with children from diverse backgrounds. She observed that some pupils attend school under difficult circumstances, and the teachers need to understand the challenges behind certain behaviours while offering support and encouragement.

The major highlight of the event was an intensive orientation session on the ethics, responsibilities, and principles of effective classroom management, facilitated by an experienced professional School Headmaster, Friday Chutte (Retired), and a representative of the Eleme LG Universal Basic Education (UBE) Board, Olaka Obe.
The programme culminated in the induction of over 200 volunteer teachers who will be deployed to schools across Eleme LGA as part of ongoing efforts by KAGOTE to improve learning outcomes and strengthen the educational system throughout Ogoniland.
The initiative is one of several educational interventions being championed by KAGOTE under the leadership of its President, Lesi Maol, to improve access to quality education and support human capital development across Ogoniland.
