Residents of Kalio-Ama community in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State have applauded the chairman of the LGA, Akuro Tobin, for the construction of a landing jetty for the community.

Expressing their gratitude to the Tobin-led administration in the LGA, they noted that the project, when completed, will ease transportation in the area and make travelling enjoyable, stressing that it is germane for providing comfort and a place for relaxation for commuters.
One of the boat drivers, simply addressed as ‘Idabe’, who spoke in local parlance, explained that the development is a timely intervention as the cost of fuel has skyrocketed.
“As e b like this wey fuel price don increase, at least this place dey very easy to reach Port Harcourt, no stress and e dey very fast, so we thank am well, well”
Reacting, a businesswoman in the community, Ladi Emmanuel welcomed the development, saying that “it is good”, noting that the number of commuters will increase.
She also advised the local government authorities to provide life vests for travellers at the jetty, pointing out that a good number of the ones there were worn out.
“If you notice, a lot of people ply this route to Port Harcourt, so getting a good landing jetty will increase the patronage that way, but the boat drivers and the passengers are benefitting, and the cost is fair enough.”

“I also want to encourage the local government to try and provide good life vests because the ones we have are not looking good again. These ones cannot help a person float on water.”
