The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has successfully scaled the screening process of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, reinforcing indications that he may seek a return to the House of Representatives rather than pursue the Abia State governorship race.

Kalu appeared for the screening exercise on Sunday at Treasures Suites and Conferences Hotel alongside Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, where both lawmakers submitted their completed nomination forms and were subsequently cleared by the ruling party.

The development comes amid growing political speculation over Kalu’s alleged governorship ambition in Abia State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The APC screening exercise followed the earlier clearance of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau on Saturday.

With the completion of the exercise, all principal officers of the 10th National Assembly seeking re-election on the platform of the APC have now been screened and cleared to contest in 2027.
