The senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged people of the South-East to pursue broader political alliances, saying the region cannot secure Nigeria’s presidency without support from other geopolitical zones.
Kalu made the remarks on Sunday, July 5, 2026, during a meeting with members of the Reality Organization, the OUK Movement and the All Progressives Congress at Camp Neya in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

He said the outcome of a presidential election in Nigeria depends on national support rather than the voting strength of a single region, urging Ndigbo to remain actively engaged in building relationships across the country.
“The South-East alone cannot make anyone president.”
“You need the support of other geopolitical zones to win the presidency.”
Kalu maintained that cooperation with other regions would place the South-East in a stronger position to realise its long-term aspiration of producing a Nigerian president.
“The South-East will produce a president at the appropriate time in a united Nigeria.”
The lawmaker also declared his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, expressing confidence in the President’s chances of securing another term in office.
“President Tinubu has no competition.”
“We are going to campaign and win competitively.”
Kalu urged members of the All Progressives Congress to remain united and avoid actions capable of creating divisions within the party as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
He also encouraged politicians to maintain close contact with grassroots supporters, saying electoral success is built on engaging the people rather than relying solely on social media campaigns.
He added that throughout his political career as a member of the House of Representatives, governor and senator, he had depended on the support of voters during elections.
His remarks come as political activities and consultations continue across the country ahead of the 2027 general election, with parties and stakeholders positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.
