Kano Pillars have been hit with sweeping sanctions by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following serious breaches during their home fixture against Rivers United on April 19, 2026.

The decision comes after a review of incidents that disrupted the match and raised concerns over safety, security, and the conduct of supporters.

The NPFL found Pillars guilty of failing to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas inside the stadium.

This breakdown created an unsafe environment for players and officials and contributed to the escalation of tension during the game.

Supporters of Kano Pillars also invaded the pitch at different stages, forcing interruptions and putting match officials under pressure.

The league ruled that these actions not only compromised the flow of the game but also brought the competition into disrepute.

Pillars faces strict penalties for misconduct and security breaches

As a result, Pillars have been fined a total of N12 million for multiple offences, including poor crowd control, repeated security lapses, and unsporting behaviour.

The club was also penalised for failing to ensure proper conduct among supporters, which led to the harassment and intimidation of match officials.

Further charges stemmed from acts of misconduct directed at officials, as well as delays caused by disruptions during the match.

The NPFL emphasised that such behaviour undermines the integrity of the league and will not be tolerated.

In addition to the financial penalties, Kano Pillars will play their next three home matches behind closed doors.

This includes their final home game of the current season and the opening two fixtures of the next campaign.

The league has given Kano Pillars a 48-hour window to appeal the sanctions, should the club decide to challenge the ruling.
