The Ken-Khana Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs has appealed to the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State to urgently resolve the political crisis in the State through peaceful and constructive dialogue.
Chairman of the Ken-Khana Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, His Royal Highness, King Dr. Barile Yorna Deebom, JP, made this appeal on Monday, January 12, 2026 during the inauguration of the newly elected Executive and newly registered members of the Council.

Rivers State has for two years and counting been enmeshed in political crisis due to the alleged ambition of the immediate past governor and now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to control the levers of politics and government in the State.
A most recent development is the third impeachment attempt by members of the State House of Assembly loyal to Wike on the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, a move many have described as a fool’s errand.

King Dr. Deebom, who is also the Gbenemene Ken-Khana and Mene-Bua Aken-Nwigbara, expressed appreciation to the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for facilitating the Council’s first meeting of the year.
He called on the State Government to prioritize development projects that will positively impact the Ken-Khana Kingdom.
In his remarks, the spokesperson of the Ken-Khana Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, Mene Barinua Nwikonee called on politicians across the State to set aside their differences and work together towards attracting more developmental initiatives to the State.

Shortly after the inauguration, the Council also inaugurated various committees to handle specific responsibilities, as well as collaborate with government at all levels to promote peace, security, and stability within Ken-Khana Kingdom.
