Following the killing of former Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Khana Local Government Area, Letam Kine, and amid growing concerns over insecurity, the Khana Local Government Council has announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening security and restoring public confidence across the area.
Speaking with journalists shortly after an emergency Security Council meeting with security chiefs in Bori on Monday, July 27, 2026, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Thomas Bariere, said the council, in collaboration with security agencies, is committed to ensuring that those behind the recent killings are identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
The Chairman disclosed that security agencies would soon embark on coordinated operations targeting identified criminal hideouts across Khana, particularly in Bori, as part of efforts to rid the area of criminal elements and restore peace.
“We have come to the realisation that there is an urgent need to commence a security operation in Khana, especially in Bori, so that all criminal hideouts will be raided to ensure that the local government is publicly sanitised.
As a government, we are assuring the people of Khana that few days from today, every criminal hideouts in this local government will be completely raided and all criminals, wherever they are, will be brought to book.
Like we have said before, crime is crime and there is no way we can sit and fold our hands and allow criminals to continue to unleash terror, causing pains to families, and taking lives of innocent people.”
As part of the new security strategy, Bariere also announced the establishment of additional security checkpoints across the local government to improve surveillance and curb the movement of criminal elements.
He urged residents to cooperate fully with security personnel during stop-and-search operations, noting that the measures are intended to enhance effective policing in the area.
The Chairman further directed his over 2,000 political appointees spread across the 19 wards of Khana to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of preventing crime.
“Henceforth, more checkpoints shall be introduced to checkmate movements, in-and-out of the local government, and in-and-out of Bori, so that security operatives will do thorough stop-and-search.
Therefore the people of Khana are encouraged to cooperate with security operatives when they get to security checkpoints, as these measures are intended to make policing effective in this local government.
We have also resolved that the over 2,000 political appointees we have spreading across the 19 wards of Khana are good enough to provide every security information that we be needed by the security operatives to be able to work effectively. As an appointee, you are expected to provide every security information to me.”
Bariere also reminded residents that the restriction on commercial motorcycle operations between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. remains in force as part of the local government’s efforts to improve security.
“We wish to equally inform the people of Khana that the restriction on motorcycle movements between the hours of 8pm and 6am is still in force. You are therefore advised to remain lawful as you go about your businesses.”
The council chairman reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of his administration, assuring residents that criminal elements would no longer find safe haven in Khana.
He also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while encouraging anyone with useful information that could aid ongoing investigations to promptly report such intelligence to the appropriate security agencies.
Those present at the emergency security meeting included the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Taabaa Division, CSP Phillip Ellom Chika; the DPO, Bori Division, CSP Kenneth Dimkpa; the Commander of the Anti-Cultism Unit; the Commander, C4I; and other heads of security agencies operating within Khana Local Government Area.
