In a bold step toward youth empowerment and sustainable development, the Khana local government has officially launched the “One Youth – One Skill” initiative, a programme aimed at equipping young people with practical, income-generating skills.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Saturday, April 4, 2026, the chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Bariere Thomas, described the initiative as a strategic intervention to tackle youth unemployment and promote entrepreneurship across the LGA.
He noted that empowering young people with relevant vocational skills would not only reduce joblessness but also stimulate community growth and economic advancement.
The chairman has urged all youths in the LGA to seize the opportunity by enrolling in the programme and remaining committed throughout the training period.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to policies and initiatives that improve livelihoods and create sustainable pathways for development.

The programme features structured training in a wide range of vocational and technical fields, providing participants with hands-on experience and the tools needed to build sustainable careers.
Beneficiaries have already begun training in areas such as welding and fabrication, paint production, electrical installation, makeup and beauty therapy, hairdressing and cosmetology, shoemaking, auto mechanics, POP ceiling design, and ICT.
Other areas include tiling, aluminium works, furniture making, building and masonry, health, safety and environment (HSE), scaffolding, soap making, catering, phone repair, photography, and perfume production.

Participants, drawn from across the different communities in the LGA, expressed appreciation and enthusiasm, thanking the chairman for the opportunity to acquire valuable skills capable of transforming their futures.
