King/Queen of Mathematics Contest Prize Hits N2m, Sponsor Challenges Students on Academic Excellence

The prize money for the overall winner of the King and Queen of Mathematics Contest has now been increased to N2,000,000, the sponsor, G30 Ibani Voice has announced.

President of G30 Ibani Voice Dr Fubara Dan-Jumbo announced this on Friday, March 27, 2026 when he visited Government Girls Secondary School (GGSSF), Finima, and Bonny National Grammar School (BNGS), Bonny.

He stated that the primary goal of the competition is to spur the students towards challenging themselves to achieve academic excellence, informing that the decision to increase the prize money to set a higher stake for competitors.

He also announced that preparations for the 2026 edition has kicked off with the preliminary stages and grand finale billed for third term of the current academic session.

He charged parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to focus more on their studies, while challenging the students in both schools and other competing schools to utilize the preparation period to expand the scope of their study habits, noting that there is no limit to what they can achieve.

An official of the G30 Ibani Voice, Dr Nathaniel Longjohn also admonished the students to prioritise the preparations for their future, saying the future hold amazing opportunities for success that can only be revealed through academic excellence.

He tasked them to emulate successful people in the society who achieved success through hardwork, diligence and integrity, asserting that most of the members of G30 Ibani Voice are alumni of BNGS and GGSSF, stressing that this is the time for them to take the future by the horns.

Also speaking, Secretary General of G30 Ibani Voice, Godswill Hart announced that this year’s edition will accommodate SS 3 students as part of modalities to open up the competition to more student categories and make it a truly equal opportunity contest.

Earlier, the Public Relations Officer of G30 Ibani Voice, Godswill Jumbo had informed that students that they were on the priority list of the organization, hence the visit and continued sponsorship of the competition, adding that the sky is wide enough for every young person to soar high in their aspirations.

Reacting to the visit, the Principal of the BNGS, Gift Nweke, who was represented by the school’s Mathematics teacher, Harrison Awaji, thanked the G30 Ibani Voice for the visit as well as the kick off of activities for the 2026 edition of the contest, noting that over time, the competition has helped to motivate the students to be more studious.

The King/Queen of Mathematics Contest, which is open to all secondary schools in Bonny LGA, aims to promote student performance in academics, with winners achieving high marks in national exams like the University Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME). It is sponsored mainly by the G30 Ibani Voice and DavFub Nigeria Limited.

The G30 Ibani Voice is a socio-economic group of professionals indigenous to Bonny Island in Rivers State, whose objective is promoting academic excellence in Mathematics and STEM subjects.
