LG Chairman Honours Predecessors at Opobo/Nkoro’s 30th Anniversary; Promises Consolidation of Their Legacies

As part of the 30th anniversary celebration of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, the Chairman, James James honoured his predecessors who had variously served either as elected or appointed chairmen, saying that their contributions form an important part of the LGA’s institutional history.

James made the remarks on Saturday, October 18, 2026 at an event to mark the 30th anniversary of the creation of the LGA, as well as his administration’s first anniversary in Opobo Town.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to build on the foundations already laid by his predecessors, surmounting existing challenges, and pursuing developmental initiatives that would stand the test of time.

Among those honoured by the LGA Chairman are the pioneer elected Chairman, Dr. Dabiekpo Marcus Opusunju, his successor, Warisenibo Maclean Bethel Uranta, and former Caretaker Committee Chairmen, Amaopusenibo Samuel Benneth, and Mike Donald-Igolima.

He said the LGA’s anniversary holds a special place for him, as it coincided with his administration’s first anniversary, saying that it is a celebration of the people’s resilience, collective achievements, shared aspirations for a brighter future, and an opportunity to reflect on their shared experiences as a people.

The Opobo/Nkoro chief executive stated that the LGA has a heritage, which is both a source of pride and responsibility, calling on all citizens of the area to preserve the traditions, promote peaceful coexistence, encourage cultural exchange, and ensure the continual inspiration of the younger generation.

He used the occasion to reel out some of the projects executed by his administration, saying that the administration has continued to prioritise interventions aimed at addressing community needs and improving the conditions under which the people live and conduct their daily activities.
