A non-governmental organization, Likeminds International Club has painted zebra crossings at the entrances of the Bonny Ultra-Modern Market, Primary Healthcare Centre, Bonny Fire Station and Secretariat of the Bonny Youth Federation (BYF).
Chairman of the group, Edosa Idehen told Kristina Reports on Friday, April 3, 2026 in Bonny, Rivers State that the zebra crossings were being one as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) for the community.

He stated that with the diversion of traffic from Mission Road and King William Dappa Pepple Road through the King Asimini Bypass, the area had become busier with vehicular traffic thus the need to safeguard lives by emplacing the zebra crossings there.
“We’re a non-governmental organization which goes around to reach out to the less privileged, and also make some impact in the community. So, as a body, we deemed it fit to do this little corporate social responsibility, CSR.
“It is to ensure that pedestrians that move around this market while crossing the road are safe. With the construction going on from the cemetery junction down to town, you can see that this place is very, very busy.”
“Normally, when you get towards a zebra crossing, you need to come to a full stop and ensure that you look left and you look right, and that no pedestrian is passing.”
“We also let the Road Safety know that for the next maybe weeks to come, they should please come here to sensitize the pedestrians, to be making good use of the zebra crossing that we are doing right now.”
“When I drive past here, I also observe a lot of near misses. So, that’s why we deemed it fit to be here today to sanitize this road by putting a zebra crossing. And surely, we will also extend it to other areas where the local government also approves for us to do.”
Members of the Club led by the Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee, Reginald Hart, and his assistant, Victor Irimagha, rallied to clean out and do markings on the areas where the zebra crossings are to be emplaced.

also speaking in an interview with Kristina Reports, Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee, Reginald Hart explained that given the variety of commuters utilizing the road and patronizing the market, it became imperative to do the zebra crossings.
“What we are doing here is to ensure that we have zebra crossings on this exposed area of the community, which is the Bonny Main Market.”
“We have our mothers, we have our children, our sisters, our wives coming in to buy and sell at the market. You see the high traffic along the road.”
“Currently, the other alternate road we have is completely blocked, which is due to the construction activity going on there. So, that’s why we are here now.”
So, we deemed it fit to come here and have a zebra crossing that can slow down motorists, vehicular movement and allow pedestrians to have access to the Bonny Main Market, which is a noble project we are doing here.”
He informed that more of the zebra crossings will be done in other areas where vulnerabilities exist such as schools, hospitals, adding that awareness creation will also be done to sensitize motorists on the importance of zebra crossings.
“We have identified various locations where we will carry out those projects just to ensure the safety of our people, our children, our mothers, our wives, our sisters, you know, coming into those locations.
