Tension gripped Kpong Town in Nyo-Khana District, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State following an alleged gruesome murder of a middle aged man simply identified as Clement Deegbara by yet to be identified gummen.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday May 20, 2026 sent shockwaves across the community as sporadic gunshots rang out across the community, filling the hearts of residents with fear and great panic.
Reacting to the incident, the Presidential Amnesty Programme Council (PAPC) strongly condemned the killing and described it as unfortunate.

Speaking through its National Chairman, Lekia Tongor, the Council expressed deep concern over what he described as the rising wave of killings in Ogoniland.
He lamented that barely two weeks ago, another illustrious son of Ogoniland, simply identified as Stanley from Luawii Community in the same Local Government Area, was also brutally shot dead.

Tongor condemned what he described as the continuous bloodshed and insecurity in Ogoniland, stressing that both the Khana Local Government authorities and the Rivers State Government have failed to take decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the affected communities.
“It is heartbreaking and disturbing that our people continue to shed innocent blood like water. What is the essence of killing ourselves?
Why can’t we unite and channel our energy towards demanding accountability, transparency, and prudent management of our God-given resources? Why must violence and hatred take precedence over the peace, unity, and development of Ogoniland?” he queried.
Lekia Tongor further described the killings as inhumane, barbaric, and unacceptable, noting that no meaningful development can thrive in an atmosphere of fear, violence, and instability.

The PAPC National Chairman therefore called on the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, and all relevant security agencies to immediately swing into action by conducting a thorough investigation into the killings and ensuring that those behind these heinous crimes are arrested and prosecuted.
“Enough is enough. PAPC remains firmly against any act capable of threatening the peace, unity, and stability of Ogoniland and the Niger Delta at large.
We urge our youths to embrace peace, dialogue, and brotherhood for the progress and future of our land”.
The Council also extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for God to grant them the strength to bear the painful loss.
