His Highness Asari Dokubo
Kristina Reports gathered from a statement by the King’s Palace on Thursday, June 18, 2025 that the King has ordered the immediate removal of the Oinma net from the New Calabar River which runs through Torusarama Piri in Elem Kalabari.
Torusarama-Piri Community is located in Rivers State, Nigeria. Specifically, it’s an ancient community that’s part of the Elem Kalabari Council of Chiefs.

The community has a rich history and culture, and its traditional ruler, the Amanyanabo of Torusarama-Piri, has been recognized by the government.
The community’s development and recognition by the government highlight the potential for growth and progress in the area.
It is on this premise that the Amanyanabo has made this significant stride to show his commitment to the wellness of his community.

Although there are variations in the fishing methods, the King maintained that the Oinma net is hazardous to the river and the people.
The move will ensure safety in the waterways and sustain the sour source of livelihood for the communities surrounding it. Moreso, it will have a positive effect on all communities as they remain beneficiaries of the river’s resources without exposure to threats.
