A football season of immense promise ended in heartbreak at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Nasarawa United crashed out of the 2026 Men’s President Federation’s Cup in the semi-finals, losing 4-2 on penalties to fellow Premier League side, Ikorodu City.
The tense encounter had ended 1-1 in regulation time before the lottery of spot-kicks decided their fate.

Ayola Ibrahim handed Ikorodu City an early lead, but Nasarawa United fought back fiercely.
Bright Amadi levelled the score in the 41st minute, converting a scintillating corner kick. Despite a grueling battle, the deadlock couldn’t be broken in normal time.
During the penalty shootout, United’s Adekunle Oluwasegun and Sam Pam missed their kicks.
Although Moyi Hassan and Ngei Oluka-Efor found the back of the net, Ikorodu City converted four of their five penalties to book a spot in the final.
The defeat officially closes the curtain on the 2025/26 football season for the Solid Miners.
Rebuilding for Next Season: Mbwas and Osanga Look Ahead
Despite missing out on silverware and a continental ticket, the team remains remarkably optimistic.
Nasarawa United boss Mangut Mbwas refused to blame his players, insisting that the squad departed the competition with dignity.
“We exit the President Federation’s Cup with our heads high,” Mbwas stated. “The boys gave everything. We didn’t lose this tie, penalties just didn’t fall for us today.”
Club captain King Osanga echoed his coach’s sentiments, acknowledging the pain of the defeat while highlighting the team’s growth.
Chairman Solomon Babanjah also reassured fans that the foundation for a dynasty has been laid.
The club is already working on rejigging the squad, focusing on early preparation to ensure an eventful and successful 2026/27 campaign.
