The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny have arrested a suspect allegedly in possession of a locally fabricated pistol, ammunition, and suspected hard drugs during a late-night patrol along the Bonny–Bodo Road in Rivers State.

A statement by the Base Operations Officer, Lieutenant Commander Sirajo Almustapha, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, said the arrest occurred around 11:23pm on January 30, 2026.

According to the statement, personnel of the FOB Bonny on routine patrol noticed a lone individual standing on a bridge along the road.

The suspect, identified as Jonah Mark, was subsequently searched, leading to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one cartridge, substances suspected to be methamphetamine, other hard drugs, and personal belongings contained in a school bag.

The naval operatives said the suspect and the recovered items have since been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bonny Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

FOB Bonny noted that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities, illegal bunkering, militancy, and crude oil theft while ensuring the protection of critical infrastructure and commercial routes within its operational area.

The Navy also urged residents to support security operations by providing timely and credible information to help curb criminal activities in the area.
