NAWOJ visits Port Harcourt Mayor, Solicits for partnership

Ahead of the National Summit scheduled to hold on October 28-30, 2026, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalist paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Allwell Ihunda on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Kristina Reports learnt that the union used the platform to officially inform the Mayor of the forthcoming programme, holding in port Harcourt which is hosting over 600 women as it is a national programme.

Speaking at the Event, the Chairman of the Committee, Ilanye Jumbo, expressed gratitude to the Mayor for the warm reception, attributing his gesture to his personality of selflessness and goodwill, recounting all his achievements dotted around the city of Port Harcourt.

“We have seen your good works dotted around the city of Port Harcourt, the Boreholes in Borokiri, the renovations, and market projects.”

Jumbo, harped on the theme for the summit ” Green the Future: empowering women for climate resilience, stressing that in the scheme of things, the women are not left behind as they also show patriotism and loyalty.

She further reassured the Mayor of the unions unwavering commitment to support the good work, while assisting for partnership and support especially for the forthcoming programme in October.

Responding, the Mayor, Allwell Ihunda appreciated the delegation, commending them for the work so far and promised to extend a hand of partnership with NAWOJ.

The Mayor also appreciated the delegation for their encouragement and participation, further highlighting the projects and achievements done so far.

“Just as you have said, we have done a lot of work, water projects at different wards, Market reconstruction, community hall erection at Ozuoboko, renovation of schools, construction of public conveniences, market women empowerments, grant to over 500 market women to support their business, medical outreach for 5,000 persons.”

“We gave out free glasses, performed different surgeries for Appendicitis and Hernia, and several others.”

The Mayor also advised the journalists to maintain professionalism in the discharge of duties.

“I want to urge to be more professional in discharging your duties as journalists. Verify your stories before you bring them to the public.”

Reacting also, the Chairman of NAWOJ, Susan Serekhana raised a concern for mobility, appealing to the Mayor for support to help curb the mobility challenge.

Present at the meeting were the Staff members of the councils, supervisors and others.
