The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to victims of flooding, windstorms and other disasters in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the disasters on affected residents.

The intervention, which took place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, was made public by the agency through its official Facebook and Instagram platforms on Wednesday, July 1, where it disclosed that the relief materials were handed over through its Owerri Operations Office to the Chairman of Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area for onward distribution to verified beneficiaries.

The agency said the exercise also covered victims in Orlu and Ehime Mbano local government areas, with food and non-food items presented to support households affected by recent flooding, windstorms and other disaster incidents.

According to NEMA, the intervention was carried out “to cushion the effects of flooding and other disasters on affected persons.”

Although the agency did not disclose the quantity or monetary value of the relief materials, it said the items were intended to provide immediate humanitarian support and ease the hardship faced by victims while complementing ongoing recovery efforts in the affected communities.

NEMA further stated that the relief materials were formally handed over to the chairmen of the benefiting local government areas for transparent distribution to verified victims.

The agency, which coordinates disaster management and humanitarian interventions across Nigeria, regularly provides emergency assistance to communities affected by natural and human-induced disasters as part of its statutory mandate.
