NLNG Confirms Fatality Recorded in Bonny Plant

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has confirmed that an incident that led to a fatality has occurred in its gas liquefaction plant in Bonny, Rivers State.

General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development of NLNG, Sophia Horsfall confirmed this on Thursday, May 21, 2026 in a response to Kristina Reports enquiry about the incident.

She informed that relevant authorities have been notified, and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been initiated.  

“NLNG confirms that there was an incident that led to fatality today at its plant on Bonny Island. The Company is working closely with relevant stakeholders in line with its emergency protocols and preliminary investigations have been triggered to ascertain the immediate circumstances.

“In addition, relevant stakeholders and authorities are being notified,” she stated, adding that “further information will be provided as soon as it becomes available”.

Kristina Reports learnt that the casualty allegedly identified as Ernest Jabez Oko-Jumbo is reportedly a staff of Amaiden Energy Nigeria Ltd, (formerly Moody International Nigeria Limited), a contractor to NLNG.

Sources disclosed to Kristina Reports that the incident led to shutting down of the facility by NLNG and workers directed to leave while investigations continued.  

Though Kristina Reports’ efforts to contact the family was yet unsuccessful, sources disclosed that the deceased was until his demise an elder in the Jabez Oko-Jumbo family of Jumbo House of Bonny Kingdom, and a native of Burukiri Community in Bonny LGA.
