Bendel Insurance have been hit with major sanctions by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following multiple breaches during their Matchday 32 clash against Plateau United at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on March 28, 2026.

The NPFL found Bendel Insurance guilty of failing to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorised individuals access to restricted areas during the match.

Boboye handed 17-match ban as NPFL enforces discipline
Head coach Kennedy Boboye was not spared in the sanctions, after being found guilty of gross misconduct towards a match official.
Boboye has been fined N2 million and handed a 17-match suspension, dealing a significant blow to Bendel Insurance’s technical setup for the remainder of the season.

The NPFL also imposed a N2 million fine on the club for holding match officials hostage for about 40 minutes after the game, a serious violation of league rules.
In addition to the financial penalties, the Benin Gunners will play their next three home matches behind closed doors, further impacting their campaign.
The sanctions shows the NPFL’s firm stance on discipline, with Bendel Insurance now facing both financial and competitive consequences as they look to move past the incident.
