The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has handed down sanctions to Osun Babes FC after breaches of league regulations led to the cancellation of their 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership match against FC Robo Queens in Lagos.

Osun Babes faces sanction after walkover at the Onikan Stadium

The scheduled fixture on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, at Onikan Stadium, Lagos, was called off because Osun Babes, the away team, failed to provide an alternative set of jerseys with player names and numbers, despite a confirmed colour clash with the home side.

Osun Babes face penalties over jersey and fixture breach

As a result, match officials awarded a walkover to FC Robo Queens, in accordance with NWFL rules.

The League ruled that Osun Babes violated Article 10.3 of the NWFL Regulatory Framework, which requires clubs to use their second-choice colours for away games in the event of a colour clash.

Furthermore, Article 10.5 states that the away team must wear alternative colours if the home team is in its registered first-choice kit.

Their failure to honour the fixture without an acceptable reason also breached Article 14.7.

NWFL emphasises professionalism and league integrity

Osun Babes have been fined ₦1,000,000 for the jersey breach and ₦1,500,000 for not fulfilling the fixture, totalling ₦2,500,000. Commenting on the decision, NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi said:

“The NWFL remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and compliance. Our regulations are clear, and all clubs are expected to meet their obligations fully. These measures are necessary to protect the integrity and credibility of the NWFL and are not punitive for their own sake,” the NWFL body said.

The NWFL reinforced its dedication to fair play, discipline, and orderly conduct in all matches, reminding all Premiership clubs of their responsibility to follow league rules to prevent future sanctions.
