The family of Celestine Obiwumma, widely regarded as the oldest man in Oforola, has announced plans for his final burial on Thursday, July 30, 2026, following his death at the age of 115.

Obiwumma died on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, after a brief illness, bringing to an end a life that spanned more than a century and left a lasting impact on his family and the Oforola community.

His burial ceremony will begin with a Holy Mass at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Oforola, on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

The Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.

Family members, friends, community leaders and well-wishers are expected to gather to pay their final respects to the late centenarian.

A reception will follow at Obiwumma’s Compound in Umujuruogu, Umuimeka Olaukwu Autonomous Community, Oforola, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.

The reception is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.

The family of Obiwumma Idimogu described the event as a celebration of a life devoted to family, peace and community values.

Before his death, Obiwumma granted an exclusive interview to Kristina Reports on Thursday, February 20, 2025, during which he reflected on his remarkable journey through life and urged young people to embrace honesty, hard work and integrity.

“Young people should avoid fraud and every form of dishonest living.”

“Hard work, patience and the fear of God will always bring lasting rewards.”

He also advised the younger generation to preserve family unity and uphold the moral values handed down by their ancestors.

“Money acquired through evil ways cannot bring peace.”

“Live a good life so that your name will continue to speak for you after you are gone.”

His words drew widespread attention across the community and beyond, with many describing them as timeless lessons from a man whose life witnessed more than a century of social and cultural change.

Throughout his lifetime, Obiwumma was recognised by residents as the oldest man in Oforola, earning admiration for his wisdom, calm disposition and commitment to peaceful coexistence.

His passing was widely mourned across the community, where many remembered him as a custodian of history whose memories connected generations.

The family has invited relatives, friends and sympathisers to join them in celebrating his life and giving him a final farewell on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
