In fulfilment of its mandate to foster human capacity development and provide sustainable livelihoods to the people of Ogoni, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has empowered 19 youths of the area with training in Aviation.

The beneficiaries participated in an orientation session on Monday, January 19, 2026, which was organized by HYPREP, after they were successfully shortlisted to undergo a six-week training in aviation/cabin crew in Lagos.
Speaking during the session, Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, congratulated the participants on meeting the training requirements and encouraged them to take the training seriously.
He disclosed that the initiative is part of a “gentle revolution” in Ogoniland aimed at replacing environmental degradation with sustainable human capacity development.
Hence, he urged the participants to act as ambassadors of the Ogoni cleanup, and should view themselves as “carriers of hope” for their communities.
Other officials who addressed the trainees include Support Lead, Ehioze Igbinomwanhia, and Head, Sustainable Livelihood, Josephine Nzidee, who emphasized that the programme is rigorous, noting that certification is strictly merit-based and dependent on passing the final examinations.
On his part, the Director of Technical Services, Damian-Paul Aguiyi, reminded the beneficiaries of the long-term value of the skill, encouraging them to focus entirely on the six-week curriculum.
“Whatever you acquire is yours; nobody can take it away from you,” he said.
Recall that the first phase of the programme has been previously undertaken in which about 30 youths were successfully trained in various aviation roles.
