Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has unveiled plans to promote locally made products, particularly in the fashion sector, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s economy and empower small businesses.

The governor made the announcement on Wednesday at the Enyimba International Stadium during the graduation ceremony of 4,000 trainees from the Fashion Future Programme (FFP), a skills development initiative powered by Ethnocentrique Limited in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and the Abia State Government.

Otti disclosed that an integrated campaign to promote made-in-Aba products would be launched in the coming weeks, with a focus on showcasing the creativity of local entrepreneurs and encouraging patronage of indigenous goods over imports.

He also directed the full operationalisation of the ENASCO facility and approved increased funding to upgrade production hubs across the state, especially in Aba, widely regarded as a centre for local manufacturing.

“This campaign will highlight the creative output of our local entrepreneurs and the economic benefits of their products,” the governor stated.

Describing the graduation as a major milestone, Otti said the programme represents a practical model for skills acquisition, innovation, and enterprise development. He further revealed plans to scale up the initiative, with discussions underway to increase beneficiaries from 4,000 to about 8,000 participants.

The governor emphasised that the programme would help reduce unemployment, stimulate economic growth, and improve internally generated revenue in the state.

In her remarks, Country Director of the Mastercard Foundation, Rosy Fynn, commended the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment through strategic partnerships.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Ethnocentrique Limited, Irunna Ejibe, explained that the 2026 edition of the programme, themed “Ahia 360,” is designed to equip young people with practical production skills while positioning Aba-made products for export.

Ejibe added that the initiative is inclusive, providing opportunities for persons living with disabilities, including the deaf and non-verbal, to gain economic independence.

The event featured fashion exhibitions and runway displays of outfits produced by the graduating trainees, drawing dignitaries and stakeholders from across the state.
