It was an action-packed weekend across European football as several Nigerian stars made their mark for their respective clubs abroad.
From red-hot scoring streaks in Hungary and Norway to MOTM performances in England and much-needed goal droughts ending in the Czech Republic, here is the full breakdown of how Nigerian players abroad performed over the weekend.
Bamidele Yusuf Continues Red-Hot Scoring Streak in Hungary
Nigerian forward Bamidele Yusuf continued his sensational form for Hungarian giants Ferencváros TC, extending his scoring streak in their Hungarian NB I clash against Paks SE.
After a goalless first half at the Groupama Arena, Yusuf broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, connecting with a cross from Marius Corbu to power home a header.
The 25-year-old forward was subbed off in the 71st minute before Kristoffer Zachariassen sealed a 2-0 victory deep into stoppage time.
Yusuf has now scored in four consecutive games for Ferencváros (against Torreense, MTK Budapest, Bicskei TC, and Paks SE).
His total tally for the season stands at 12 goal contributions (9 goals, 3 assists) in 23 appearances across all competitions, making a compelling case for a Super Eagles call-up ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania.
Fred Onyedinma Drops Man of the Match Display for Wycombe
Over in English League One, Fred Onyedinma put in a masterclass performance to guide Wycombe Wanderers to a 2-0 home victory over Burton Albion at Adams Park.
The 29-year-old forward set up Cauley Woodrow’s second-half goal to seal the win, extending his personal run to a goal contribution in four consecutive matches (2 goals, 2 assists).
Onyedinma earned the Man of the Match award with an impressive 8.4 rating, taking his season total to 7 goal contributions (4 goals, 3 assists) in 14 matches as Wycombe extended their unbeaten streak to four games.
Philip Otele Scores FC Basel Equaliser in Narrow Defeat
In the Swiss Super League, 27-year-old winger Philip Otele got back on the scoresheet for FC Basel, though it was not enough to prevent a 2-1 away loss against league leaders FC Lugano.
With Basel trailing by two goals following early strikes from Daniel Dos Santos and Yanis Cimignani, Otele pulled one back in the 37th minute with a stunning header.
It was his second goal of the season in 13 appearances and his first strike since September 13. Despite his effort, Basel couldn’t complete the comeback, leaving them in 7th place with 14 points.
Kparobo Arierhi Scores in Fifth Straight Game for Sogndal
19-year-old wonderkid Kparobo Arierhi continued his electric scoring form in the Norwegian 1. Divisjon (OBOS-Ligaen), despite Sogndal falling 2-1 away to Ranheim at the EXTRA Arena.
After Sogndal fell behind early to a Gustav Mogensen goal, the teenage forward restored parity in the 24th minute to bring his side level before half-time.
The strike marked Arierhi’s fifth consecutive match with a goal, taking his tally to 8 goal contributions in 14 appearances this season while on loan from Lillestrøm.
However, Ranheim secured the winner early in the second half through Mikael Johnsen.
Quadri Adediran Ends Three-Month Goal Drought in Czech Republic
Striker Quadri Adediran provided a crucial lifeline for newly promoted SK Artis Brno in their 2-2 draw against FC Zlín in the Czech First League.
After going seven matches without a goal, the 26-year-old former Czech second-division Golden Boot winner netted a 30th-minute equaliser to cancel out Miloš Kopečný’s opener.
Artis Brno took the lead in the second half through Emmanuel Fully before Zlín found a late equaliser to split the points. Adediran, who featured for 81 minutes, now has 3 goals and 1 assist in 8 league appearances this season.
