According to the report, Anyanwu and her friend, identified as Special Bensington, had boarded a ride from a hotel along Emmanuel Road, off Odili Road, when they were ambushed by suspected armed assailants.

The attackers, believed to have followed the victims from the hotel, reportedly approached in a tricycle and opened fire on them along the Total Gospel area.

“One of the victims sustained severe gunshot injuries during the attack,” the statement noted.

The injured victim was rushed to BMH Hospital in Port Harcourt, where she later succumbed to her injuries on March 21 while receiving treatment.

Following the incident, the Divisional Police Officer of Abuloma Division led a team to the crime scene and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations. The deceased has since been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

However, due to the severity of the case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed forensic analysis and further investigation.

“The Command strongly condemns this gruesome act and assures the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” the police spokesperson stated.

Authorities also called on members of the public to assist with credible information that could aid the investigation, through the police phone lines made available to the public, assuring residents that updates would be provided as progress is made.
