The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says its enforcement of restrictions on the movement of commercial tricycles and motorcycles across the state is still in force.

Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), in a press release on Sunday, May 10, 2026, reminded the public that the ban on tricycle operations from 10:00pm remains in full effect.

She stated that this reiteration was part of renewed efforts to tackle rising cases of “one-chance” robberies and other violent crimes in the State.

Operators and owners have been urged to comply strictly, as violators will face arrest and prosecution.

She noted that the enforcement aligns with directives of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

As part of strengthened security strategies, the Command also announced additional measures set to take effect from May 18, 2026, which include a ban on the use of tinted or covered tricycles used for commercial purposes, as well as strict prohibition of concealed, altered, or missing vehicle plate numbers.

According to the police, any commercial vehicle found violating these directives will be impounded, while operators will be arrested and prosecuted.

ASP Agabe further stated that the use of unregistered vehicles has also been outlawed, with owners directed to regularise their documentation immediately.

The Command further called for increased collaboration between local security outfits, community leaders, and Divisional Police Officers to enhance intelligence gathering and improve coordinated responses to crime.

Meanwhile, residents have been advised to take precautionary measures to avoid falling victim to “one-chance” criminals.

These include avoiding boarding vehicles in isolated or poorly lit areas, being cautious of suspicious occupants, and refraining from entering vehicles with tinted interiors.

The police also encouraged commuters to share travel details with trusted persons, avoid displaying valuables in transit, and ensure vehicles can be opened from both inside and outside before boarding.

In cases of emergency or suspicious activity, the public is urged to contact the Police through designated emergency lines.

The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in the fight against crime.
