Prosper Obah continued his impressive rise in Ukraine after scoring twice to help Shakhtar Donetsk secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Kryvbas in Sunday’s Ukrainian Premier League clash.
The Nigerian forward came off the bench in the first half and made an immediate impact, delivering two clinical finishes as the newly crowned champions battled to another important away win.
Prosper Obah Leads Shakhtar Donetsk Fightback in Five-Goal Thriller
Obah replaced Eguinaldo in the 22nd minute and wasted little time settling into the game.
The 22-year-old looked sharp in attack and constantly troubled the Kryvbas defence with his movement and composure in front of goal.
Shakhtar Donetsk opened the scoring three minutes before halftime through Lassina Traoré after a well-worked move involving Irakli Azarovi.
Moments later, Obah doubled the visitors’ advantage with a calm finish to put the champions in control before the break.
Kryvbas responded strongly after halftime and reduced the deficit in the 58th minute through Gleiker Mendoza.
However, Obah restored Shakhtar’s two-goal cushion 10 minutes later with his second goal of the afternoon.
Yaroslav Shevchenko scored late for the home side, but Shakhtar Donetsk held on to claim all three points in a tense finish at Hirnyk Stadium.
Obah Continues Breakthrough Season in Ukrainian Premier League
The brace moved Prosper Obah into double figures for goals this season and underlined his growing importance at Shakhtar Donetsk despite limited playing time since his arrival in January.
The Nigerian striker joined the club from LNZ Cherkasy during the winter transfer window after enjoying an impressive first half of the campaign.
Across all competitions this season, Obah has now registered 11 goals and three assists, while his tally in the Ukrainian Premier League has risen to three goals.
Despite featuring in only 10 matches for Shakhtar Donetsk and playing just over 468 minutes, the young forward has continued to deliver whenever called upon.
Last week, Prosper Obah also celebrated his first Ukrainian Premier League title after helping Shakhtar secure the crown with victory over Obolon Kyiv.
With one league game left this season, the Nigerian forward remains among the top scorers in the division and will now look to finish the campaign strongly against FC Kolos Kovalivka.
