Rivers Angels marked a special day in camp with a gritty 2–1 victory over Ekiti Queens in Abeokuta, handing head coach Tosan Blankson and goalkeeper trainer Martins Datoru a memorable birthday present.

It was a contest that had everything — an early breakthrough, second-half control, and late pressure — but in the end, Rivers Angels showed composure to secure all three points.

Lightning Starts from the Jewels of Rivers

The visitors came out with intent and were rewarded almost immediately. Patience Otubo struck inside the opening two minutes, catching Ekiti Queens cold and giving Rivers Angels the perfect start.

The early goal allowed the Port Harcourt outfit to dictate the rhythm of the game, moving the ball confidently while keeping their defensive lines organised against the hosts’ attempts to respond.

Ajibade’s Cushion and Late Resistance

Rivers Angels extended their advantage 20 minutes into the second half when Taiwo Ajibade finished calmly to make it 2–0. At that stage, the visitors looked firmly in control.

However, Ekiti Queens refused to back down. Miracle Ohaeri pulled one back just four minutes later, setting up a nervy finish in Abeokuta.

With the home side pushing forward in search of an equaliser, Rivers Angels tightened up at the back and managed the closing stages with discipline to preserve their lead until the final whistle.

Celebrations on and off the Pitch

The victory carried extra significance as it coincided with the birthdays of Blankson and Datoru.

Rather than settle for symbolic celebrations, the team delivered the most important gift possible — maximum points on the road.
