Rivers Governor, Fubara Pledges Continued Support for RSU, as 13,242 Students Graduate

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Rivers State University (RSU), as he celebrated the institution’s 13,242 graduates at the 37th and 38th Combined Convocation Ceremony held today at the Convocation Arena in the University’s main campus, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo.
The visitor to the University, Governor Fubara, who was as well the guest of honor, praised RSU for its remarkable growth and outstanding contributions to developing manpower in the state and country.

“I am pleased to see these fundamental dreams realised as 13,242 students from all parts of Nigeria receive graduate and postgraduate degrees, certificates, and diplomas,” he said.
The Governor emphasized the importance of education in driving economic success, stating, “Education is the most crucial investment for a nation’s economic success.
Therefore, we cannot, as a responsible government, afford to deprive our youths of the most essential tool they need to improve their lives.”
Governor Fubara who acknowledged the challenges of the University with commitment to deploy a holistic solution approach, pledged to prioritize funding to improve the learning environment.

“Our commitment, therefore, is to go beyond limited measures and pursue lasting, transformative reforms to bolster the educational system and achieve the intended outcomes.”
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi highlighted the university’s achievements, including providing hostel accommodation for 40,000 students and obtaining full National University Commission and professional accreditations for various programs.

“We are graduating a total of 13,242 students at this convocation ceremony, with 10,648 of them that convoked yesterday for first degrees and 594 for postgraduate diplomas and degrees.”
“Also, 157 of them obtained First Class; 2,587, Second Class (Upper Division); and 6,275, Second Class (Lower Division).”
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Okey Wali, SAN, noted the Governor’s unwavering commitment to supporting and funding the university, stressing that there will be no room for indiscipline.
He assured that issues such as corruption, extortion, and sexual harassment would be addressed to protect the university’s reputation and enforce accountability.
The Chancellor of the University, His Royal Highness, Justice, Dr. Sidi Bage Mohammad, praised Governor Fubara’s administration for making RSU one of the best-funded tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The University had held its convocation lecture on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, delivered by Dr. Daere Akobo who urged graduates to pursue their goals with urgency, emphasizing the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship.


He called on the University, and all educational bodies to effectively embrace technology and artificial intelligence in an ever-evolving world, noting the importance of harnessing innovation to improve knowledge acquisition.
