Following the tragic death of a two-year-old girl in the school, the Rivers State Ministry of Education has suspended with immediate effect all academic activities at Wisdom Gate International Schools, Eliogbolo in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, who ordered the suspension on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in Port Harcourt, disclosed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in the school.
He described the development as “deeply unfortunate” and extended the state government’s condolences to the bereaved family.
The Education Commissioner urged members of the public to respect the privacy of the grieving parents and refrain from spreading unverified information or engaging in speculation about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
He stated that the ministry has engaged the school’s management and conducted an independent investigation into the incident as part of efforts to ascertain the facts and ensure accountability.
Following the preliminary findings, the government directed that Wisdom Gate International Schools, Campus 1, be shut down indefinitely. The school is to remain closed until all issues relating to the case are fully resolved.

He reiterated his ministry’s commitment to maintaining safety standards and quality assurance across both public and private schools in the state, stressing that the welfare of pupils remains a top priority.
Dr Nwagor assured the people of the state that further actions would be guided by the outcome of ongoing reviews into the incident.
