The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has named the aspirant that would run as its deputy governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The unveiling took place at the party’s secretariat on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, where Mike Nwielaghi from Buan community in Khana Local Government Area was presented to the stakeholders and members of the NDC.
Mike Nwielaghi will run as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs.
A seasoned politician, lawyer, and technocrat, Nwielaghi has held several leadership positions in politics, as well as the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), the Khana, Gokana, Tai Eleme (KAGOTE) Consultative Forum, and the Hydrocarbon Pollution and Remediation Project (HYPREP).
His emergence is being seen by political observers as a move that strengthens the NDC’s chances in the 2027 governorship race.
