The Rivers State Ministry of Education has disclosed plans to launch a statewide enforcement operation targeting unapproved private schools across the state.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday June 10, 2026 by the Commissioner for Education Peters Nwagor, the exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 15, 2026.

According to him, the initiative is part of efforts to enhance quality assurance and ensure strict compliance with educational regulations.
Nwagor explained that any private school operating without proper registration and official approval from the Ministry, as well as those that fail to meet required standards, will be shut down in accordance with the State’s Private Schools Law and other relevant regulations.

He noted that the move is aimed at guaranteeing that children in Rivers State are taught in safe, conducive environments that support quality learning.
The Commissioner also instructed all duly approved private schools with outstanding annual renewal fees to settle their debts immediately, warning that only institutions with valid approval certificates and up-to-date payments will be permitted to operate.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining standards in the education sector, Nwagor said the exercise will help safeguard the future of children and promote excellence in private school management across the state.
He advised school proprietors seeking clarification to visit the State Quality Assurance Services (SEQAS) Office at Government Girls’ Secondary School (GGSS), Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, or reach out to the Director of SEQAS, Chinedu Wordu.
The Ministry emphasised that the enforcement drive forms part of broader efforts by the Rivers State Government to improve educational quality and uphold best practices in school administration statewide.
