The Nigerian Premier Football League title race has entered a decisive phase, and Rivers United find themselves under growing pressure as they prepare for a tricky trip to Wikki Tourist.

With Enugu Rangers keeping pace, every point now carries huge weight in the push for NPFL glory.
Rivers United face stern Wikki Tourist test in title race
Rivers United head into this fixture knowing their recent away form has been a major concern.
Despite their strong overall campaign, the Port Harcourt side have struggled badly on the road, losing seven consecutive away matches—an alarming run that threatens their title charge.
Their heaviest setback in that stretch came against Nasarawa United, highlighting the scale of the challenge they must overcome.
Yet, there is some relief in the form of their opponents, as the Bauchi side have also failed to impress at home, going three matches without a win, with two draws and one defeat.
With Wikki fighting to escape relegation and Rivers chasing the title, the stakes could not be higher heading into this encounter.
Finidi backs Rivers United to rediscover winning edge
Despite the poor away run, head coach Finidi George remains confident his side can deliver when it matters most.
The former Enyimba boss believes a return to their earlier away form could be the key to securing a vital result.
“We’ll be going there to win. Our away form in the first round was very good. We have to bring that A-game again against Wikki Tourist. If we can do that, we’ll win. I don’t see them beating us.
But football being what it is, you never know what’s going to happen. We’ll prepare properly because we know a lot is at stake. If I say a lot is at stake, you know what I’m talking about. We’ll go there and give our all.”
That confidence comes after Rivers United produced a dominant 3-0 victory over Abia Warriors at home, a result that briefly boosted their title hopes.
However, their momentum was checked when Enugu Rangers secured an important win over Bayelsa United in Yenagoa, keeping the pressure firmly on.
Finidi insists his team will stay focused and fight until the very end of the campaign.
“We have to recover properly and focus on the next game against Wikki. The title decider could come down to the last game. Ikorodu will face Rangers, and we’ll play Katsina. Everything is still possible until the final day.”
As the season edges closer to its climax, Rivers United must now prove they can overcome their away struggles.
For Wikki Tourist, it is a battle for survival. For Rivers United, it is a fight to keep their title dream alive—making this clash a defining moment in the NPFL season.
