The former Sporting Lagos shot-stopper has penned a three-year contract with the Port Harcourt-based team as manager Finidi George continues a major squad overhaul in the Garden City.

Nchekwube arrives on the heels of a stellar individual campaign in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

He played a pivotal role in ensuring the Minna-based Ikon Allah Boys avoided relegation during the 2025/26 season, helping them secure a 15th-place finish with 48 points.

Despite playing for a struggling side, the rising star excelled in his debut season with Niger Tornadoes.

He finished fourth on the league’s clean sheets chart, validating the talent that previously earned him an invitation to Nigeria’s U-23 Olympic team.

His arrival marks a clear intent from Finidi George to fortify the backline for both domestic dominance and the CAF Champions League.

Nchekwube is the sixth new addition at Rivers United, joining the recently acquired Kun Khalifat trio of Chikamso Amaefula, Blessed Iyamu, and Ekebuike James.
