The Rivers State Government has approved the temporary relocation of students and staff of Community Secondary School, Rumuapara, to State Primary School, Nkpolu, both in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The relocation, approved by the State Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, takes effect from Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
According to a statement dated September 28, 2026 and signed by the Commissioner, the decision became necessary to safeguard the lives, safety and general well-being of students and staff following severe flooding that has taken over the school premises.
Nwagor said the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee had earlier visited the school to assess the situation. He added that the committee is working to identify the causes of the flooding and develop a lasting solution, with measures covering immediate, medium and long-term flood prevention.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the Rivers State Government to the safety, welfare and uninterrupted education of children across the state.
