Rivers State Television (RSTV) has announced plans to collaborate with the Energy and Maritime Reporters of Nigeria (EMR) to enhance specialised media content focusing on maritime activities as well as the oil and gas sector for audiences nationwide.
The partnership move was disclosed when the acting General Manager of RSTV, Paul Damgbor, received a delegation of EMR members at the station’s headquarters on Friday , February 6, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, Damgbor stressed the importance of quality content in driving industry awareness and development.
“Content is the key to the development of the energy industry,” he said, adding that journalists must demonstrate professionalism in reporting critical sectors of the economy.

Damgbor, who described himself first as a reporter, noted that RSTV, as the voice of the Rivers State Government, is committed to repositioning the station to better project government programmes and policies while delivering impactful information to viewers.

He further encouraged EMR members to intensify coverage of issues affecting the Niger Delta, particularly challenges arising from oil and gas operations, noting the region’s significant contribution to Nigeria’s economy despite environmental consequences faced by host communities.

In his remarks, EMR Chairman, Martin Giadom, commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for appointing Damgbor, describing him as a seasoned journalist capable of repositioning the station.
Giadom also used the visit to announce EMR’s planned World Ocean Day and Award ceremony scheduled for June 2026, urging industry stakeholders to support media organisations as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts.

Also speaking, BusinessDay Regional Editor and leader of the EMR delegation, Ignatius Chukwu, emphasised the need for media organisations to prioritise strong content development.
“Content drives audience interest, and audience interest attracts sponsorship necessary for media growth,” he said.
Chukwu added that EMR comprises experienced maritime and energy journalists committed to credible reportage of developments within Nigeria’s maritime and oil and gas industries.
