Nigeria’s Ruth Asuquo delivered a determined performance to claim the silver medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Asuquo opened her campaign by recording a personal best lift of 75kg in the snatch, placing third after the opening phase of the competition.

She then endured a difficult start in the clean and jerk, failing to complete her opening two attempts at 93kg.

Needing a successful lift to stay in medal contention, the Nigerian showed impressive composure by clearing 93kg on her final attempt to secure second place on the podium.

Her combined total of 168kg was enough to earn the silver medal behind India’s Mirabai Chanu, who won gold, while Malaysia’s Irene Henry finished third to take bronze.
