Rivers United have made a major statement ahead of the upcoming season by securing the signature of highly-rated young talent Shola Oladunjoye from Sporting Lagos.
The 20-year-old starlet chose to join the Pride of Rivers over signing a contract extension with the newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side.
Chasing African Glory Under Finidi George
Though Sporting Lagos pushed hard to keep one of their brightest assets, Oladunjoye’s head was turned by the opportunity to play top-tier continental football in Port Harcourt.
The chance to test his skills on the grand stage of a CAF inter-club competition was the decisive factor for the youngster.
He will now look to continue his development under the tactical guidance of Rivers United’s head coach, Finidi George.
While the Garden City giants are yet to formally unveil their new signing to the public, the paperwork is entirely finalised, adding a brilliant spark of youth to an increasingly formidable squad.
From Madiba FC to the Big Stage: What Oladunjoye Brings to Port Harcourt
Oladunjoye arrives in Port Harcourt with a rapidly growing reputation. Prior to his standout 2025/26 season with Sporting Lagos, he spent four crucial developmental years refining his craft at Madiba FC.
Known for his exceptional creativity, relentless work rate, and dynamic energy, Oladunjoye quickly became a key figure for Sporting Lagos.
As Rivers United prepare to juggle the intense demands of both domestic league football and continental fixtures, Oladunjoye will be eager to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact for his new club.
