The wife of the Governor of Anambra, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has called on Nigerians to show genuine love and kindness to one another, not only to romantic partners, as Valentine’s Day is being marked today, Saturday, February 14th 2026.
In a Valentine’s Day goodwill message issued from Awka on Saturday, Dr. Nonye said love should go beyond the annual celebration and be reflected through everyday actions.

She described true love as something expressed through compassion and selfless acts toward others and said:
“Acts of love, no matter how small, can leave lasting positive impacts on individuals and communities.”
She encouraged people to strengthen relationships with loved ones and extend kindness more broadly, saying:
“I encourage families and friends to use the occasion to strengthen bonds while also extending kindness to people around them.”
She also advised citizens to ensure that their behaviour reflects goodwill, humanity and affection.
“Ensure that your words and actions reflect goodwill, humanity and affection,” she said in her message.
According to Dr Nonye, the society becomes better when empathy and mutual respect are embraced universally.
“The society becomes better when people embrace empathy and mutual respect,” she added.
She then wished residents a joyful Valentine’s Day celebration and urged them to spread love across their communities.
In another statement marking Valentine’s Day 2026, Dr Nonye, also stressed that love should be shared with all, not limited to romantic partners, and urged citizens to express affection and goodwill in ways that leave “memorable and long‑lasting impact.”
“Give today not because it’s Valentine’s Day but because one little act of love can make a memorable impact,” she said.
“Let your words and actions today carry significant kindness and genuine affection.”
“Celebrate this special occasion with the people you love, and remember to extend a hand of kindness to everyone around you, too.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day. I love you all.”
Her message, released on Valentine’s Day itself, reflected a broad appeal for Nigerians to use the occasion to uplift others, promote compassion and strengthen social bonds across communities.
