The 21-year-old initially joined FC Midtjylland from Nigeria’s FC Heart Academy in the summer of 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s brightest attacking prospects.

During the 2023/24 campaign, Iheanacho featured prominently for Midtjylland’s U19 side, making 22 appearances and scoring 12 goals. He also impressed in the UEFA Youth League, where he netted twice in four appearances.

His rapid progress earned him a first-team debut in a Danish Cup clash against Aabenraa BK, where he announced himself in remarkable fashion by scoring four goals.

Seeking consistent senior opportunities, Iheanacho departed Midtjylland in July 2024 to join Portuguese outfit CD Mafra on a free transfer.

The move proved beneficial for his development. Across all competitions, the Nigerian forward made 65 appearances and scored 17 goals for the Portuguese club while gaining valuable first-team experience.

Confirming the transfer, FC Midtjylland welcomed the striker back through their social media channels, writing: “Welcome back, Stanley Iheanacho! Contract signed through 2030.”

FC Midtjylland Believe Stanley Iheanacho Is Ready for the Next Level

Midtjylland Sports Director Kristian Bach Bak believes the striker has matured significantly during his time in Portugal and is now better prepared for the demands of senior football.

According to Bach Bak, Iheanacho’s journey from Nigeria to Denmark and later Portugal has helped shape both his character and playing style.

The club executive highlighted the striker’s pace, movement, work ethic and goalscoring instincts as key qualities that convinced the club to bring him back.

For his part, Stanley Iheanacho described the move as the perfect next step in his career.

The forward revealed that he always viewed FC Midtjylland as the club that launched his professional journey and said his spell at Mafra provided the playing time and experience he needed to continue growing.

Now back in Denmark, Iheanacho is determined to establish himself in the first team, earn regular minutes and help FC Midtjylland compete for trophies and success in the Europa League.

Having already built relationships with several members of the squad during his previous spell at the club, the Nigerian striker believes he can quickly settle back into the environment as he begins the next phase of his career.
