After a goalless 90 minutes, Nigeria held their nerve from the spot, leaving the Pharaohs disappointed.

Super Eagles Hold Firm in a Tactical First Half

Nigeria started strongly, pressing Egypt early and pushing the Pharaohs deep into their own half.

In the 36th minute, the Eagles thought they had taken the lead when Samuel Chukwueze’s cross found the net through Akor Adams, but VAR ruled it out for a foul in the buildup.

Egypt responded by tightening their defence, limiting clear chances and keeping the match tight. Both teams struggled to find a rhythm, and the first half ended scoreless in a tense tactical battle.

Nwabali Shines as Super Eagles Secure Bronze

The second half saw Nigeria continue to press, with Ademola Lookman coming close, only for his effort to be ruled offside.

Despite increased intensity, neither team could break the deadlock, leading to a decisive penalty shootout.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali became the hero for Nigeria, saving two crucial penalties from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.

And at the other end, Akor Adams, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, and Lookman sealed the victory, as Dele-Bashiru’s effort was saved.

The win confirmed a well-deserved AFCON bronze medal for the Super Eagles, who made sure the Eric Chelle side didn’t leave Morocco empty-handed.

This result ends Nigeria’s continental tournament on a positive note and highlights the resilience of the Super Eagles as they look forward to future competitions.
