Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has officially completed a move to Turkish Süper Lig side Konyaspor, signing a two-year contract as he embarks on another chapter of his European career.

The Nigerian international was unveiled at the Konyaspor Museum inside the club’s stadium, where Branch Manager Ali Camgöz oversaw the signing ceremony. Awaziem has been handed the No. 15 shirt ahead of the new season.

The transfer marks Awaziem’s third spell in Turkish football, having previously impressed during stints with Çaykur Rizespor and Alanyaspor.

His familiarity with the league is expected to help him settle quickly as Konyaspor look to strengthen their squad.

The 29-year-old joins Konyaspor after spending last season with French Ligue 1 outfit Nantes, where he established himself as one of the team’s most reliable defensive performers.

Throughout his career, Awaziem has gained valuable experience across several European leagues, featuring in Portugal, France, Spain, Croatia and Turkey, while also enjoying a spell in Major League Soccer in the United States.

Since leaving FC Porto, the versatile defender has built a reputation for his consistency and adaptability, excelling both as a central defender and at right-back.

His leadership qualities, aerial dominance and composure in possession are expected to add stability to Konyaspor’s backline.

Awaziem is no stranger to Turkish football. He first made his mark during a loan spell with Çaykur Rizespor in 2019 before returning to the country with Alanyaspor for the 2021/22 campaign, earning praise for his solid defensive displays on both occasions.

Konyaspor confirmed the signing shortly after the official unveiling, welcoming the Nigerian defender across the club’s social media platforms.

“We welcome Chidozie Awaziem and wish him success in our green and white jersey,” the club said.

On the international stage, Awaziem has made more than 40 appearances for Nigeria, representing the Super Eagles at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments as well as the FIFA World Cup.
