It was another action-packed weekend for Nigerian footballers across Europe’s top leagues, with goals, key assists, and high-stakes drama taking center stage from the Super Lig to Eredivisie, Austrian Bundesliga, Czech First League, and EFL Championship.
Here is a full recap of how Nigerian stars Gift Orban, Yira Sor, Moses Usor, Tolu Arokodare, Mubarak Suleiman, and Dapo Afolayan performed for their respective clubs over the weekend.
Turkish Super Lig: Orban & Sor Lead Amedspor’s Fightback in 7-Goal Thriller Against Galatasaray
In a dramatic Round 11 clash at RAMS Park, Gift Orban and Yira Sor both found the back of the net for Amedspor, though their efforts were not quite enough to prevent a narrow 4-3 defeat against champions Galatasaray.
Despite the loss, Orban continued his explosive run of form. The 24-year-old striker scored in the 65th minute with a pinpoint header to bring Amedspor to 3-2.
Orban has now scored in three consecutive matches, taking his tally to 10 goals and 4 assists in 11 league games—making him the first player to hit double digits in goals in the Turkish Super Lig this season.
Returning from a two-month injury layoff, Yira Sor came off the bench to score in the 92nd minute, capitalizing on a loose rebound to set up a tense finish and notch his second league goal of the campaign.
Eredivisie: Tolu Arokodare Scores Header as Ajax Settle for Draw
Fresh off a heroic display in the UEFA Conference League, Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare maintained his red-hot form by opening the scoring just three minutes into AFC Ajax’s Round 12 match against FC Twente.
Arokodare rose high inside the box to connect with Oscar Gloukh’s cross, powering home a header to put Ajax ahead.
The 25-year-old forward has now scored in five consecutive matches (6 goals, 2 assists in that span), taking his total season output to an astonishing 13 goals and 4 assists across 15 appearances.
Despite Ajax taking a 2-0 lead, FC Twente staged a late comeback to force a 2-2 draw. Arokodare now joins the Super Eagles camp ahead of Nigeria’s November 2027 AFCON qualifying double-header against Tanzania.
Austrian Bundesliga: Moses Usor Wins Upper Austrian Derby for LASK Linz
Moses Usor delivered off the bench once again to inspire LASK Linz to a 4-2 victory over SV Ried in the Upper Austrian Derby.
Entering the match in the 61st minute with the score tied at 2-2, the 24-year-old winger needed just 29 minutes to leave his mark. In the 90th minute, Usor calmly finished off a setup from defender Kasper Poul Mølgaard Jørgensen to score the game-winning goal.
Usor’s latest strike takes his season tally to 11 goal contributions (5 goals, 6 assists) in 19 appearances across all competitions.
Czech First League: Mubarak Suleiman Bags Assist in Slavia Prague Victory
19-year-old midfielder Mubarak Suleiman continued his impressive breakthrough season, providing an assist just three minutes into SK Slavia Prague’s 4-1 victory over 10-man Artis Brno.
Suleiman set up Mojmír Chytil for the opening goal, marking his second consecutive league match with an assist.
The performance took the newly invited Super Eagles star to 8 direct goal contributions (5 goals, 3 assists) in 12 appearances this season.
The match featured a heavy Nigerian presence:
David Moses started for Slavia Prague (played 59 minutes). Emmanuel Ayaosi also featured for the hosts while Quadri Adediran played for Artis Brno.
Suleiman will now link up with the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania.
EFL Championship: Dapo Afolayan Nets Winner Against Former Club
In England’s second tier, Dapo Afolayan proved to be the difference maker as Blackburn Rovers secured a 2-1 victory over West Ham United at Ewood Park.
Facing his former club, Afolayan drilled a low strike into the bottom-right corner from the edge of the box in the 71st minute to double Blackburn’s lead—a goal that ultimately proved to be the match winner.
The 29-year-old now has 5 league goals and 2 assists in 15 Championship appearances, bringing his overall season totals to 8 goal contributions in 17 matches across all competitions.
