President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after concluding a four-week working vacation in Europe.
The President arrived in Lagos from Paris, France, on Tuesday September 29, 2026 aboard the Nigerian Air Force One. The aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:22 p.m.
President Tinubu had departed Nigeria on August 30 for London, where he spent one week before proceeding to Paris, France. During his stay in France, the President held official engagements, including a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as other activities relating to Nigeria-France relations and his administration’s engagements in Europe.
The President’s return comes ahead of programmes marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. As part of the anniversary-related activities, President Tinubu is also expected to participate in events honouring the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, popularly known as MKO Abiola.
Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, was a prominent businessman, philanthropist and political figure whose death in detention in 1998 became a significant part of Nigeria’s democratic history.
The Federal Government officially recognised June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day in 2018, in recognition of the significance attached to the 1993 presidential election and the struggle for the restoration of democratic rule.
The remembrance activities are therefore expected to focus on Abiola’s contribution to Nigeria’s democratic history and the broader significance of the June 12 struggle.
President Tinubu returned to Nigeria through Lagos, where he is expected to resume his official engagements and participate in programmes marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
