A Traditional Ruler in Rivers State, Professor Leslie Eke, has commended the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, for the removal of illegal checkpoints and unauthorised roadblocks in parts of the state, describing the action as decisive, timely and beneficial to residents, motorists, and businesses across the state.
Speaking with newsmen at his Palace in Woji Community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area during the weekend, Prof Eke, who is the Eze Oha Evo III of Evo Kingdom (Nyerisi Eli Woji), Eze Woji Xll, noted that the development has significantly improved traffic flow and created a more conducive environment for commercial activities and daily movement of people.

Prof. Eke, who doubles as the President, Association of Christian Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (AOCTRON) and Chairman, Supreme Council of Ikwerre Government Recognised Traditional Rulers, stated that for years, motorists, commuters, and business operators had endured unnecessary delays, traffic congestion and avoidable inconveniences caused by what he described as the proliferation of illegal checkpoints and roadblocks on major roads within the state.
According to him, the intervention initiated under the leadership of CP Olugbenga Adepoju has restored confidence among road users and demonstrated renewed commitment to professionalism, discipline and efficient service delivery within the security architecture of the state.
He further noted that residents now spend less time in traffic and are able to carry out their lawful activities with greater convenience, adding that such reforms contribute meaningfully to economic growth and social stability.
His Majesty however urged the Commissioner of Police to continue with the exercise, stressing that sustained effort in monitoring, supervision and enforcement would be essential in preventing a return to old practices.
He emphasised that maintaining free and lawful movement across Rivers State would further strengthen public trust in law enforcement agencies and deepen cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.
King Eke also appealed to motorists, transport operators, and members of the public to support legitimate security operations by remaining law-abiding and reporting activities capable of undermining the ongoing reforms.
According to him, the collective responsibility of government institutions, security agencies and citizens remains essential in creating an environment that encourages investment, supports enterprise and stimulates socio-economic development.
The Eze Oha Evo III, however, reaffirmed the readiness of traditional institutions in Evo Kingdom to continue partnering with CP Olugbenga Adepoju and other security agencies in promoting peace, order and sustainable development across Rivers State.
