Traditional Ruler Harps on Navy’s Role in Harnessing Blue Economy Benefits

A country chief of Bonny Kingdom, Se-Alabo Clinton Ibiwari Gibson Dan-Jumbo, Jene IV, says the Nigerian Navy has a critical role to play if Nigeria is to fully harness the benefits of the Blue Economy and Maritime Domain.

Se-Alabo Dan-Jumbo said this on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 when he paid a courtesy call on the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Bonny, Captain Chukwuemeka Umeh in his office in Bonny, Rivers State.

The traditional ruler and the FOB Commander engaged in strategic conversations on the multilateral benefits of the Blue Economy and Nigeria’s maritime environment, highlighting how strategies for harnessing its potentials converge at the intersections of maritime security, community engagement and stakeholder management.

Se-Alabo Dan-Jumbo, who is also the Chief and Head of the Dan-Jumbo Chieftaincy House of Bonny Kingdom, praised the Navy for ensuring that the nation’s maritime domain is secured for economic activities to thrive, especially, across Atlantic corridor.

He further commended the Forward Operating Base Bonny for its ongoing and relentless proactive overwatch of the waterways around Bonny, as well as coalescing with sister agencies to ensure that security threats in the area are neutralized.

Responding, the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Bonny, Capt. Chukwuemeka Umeh thanked Se-Alabo Dan-Jumbo for the visit, noting that effective security management cannot be exclusive of community engagement.

He stated that effective security management begins with intelligence gathering, pointing out that the input of communities in that regard cannot be overemphasized, urging community leaders to support the military and security agencies by providing them with timely, actionable and credible intelligence.

Capt. Umeh expressed delight over the traditional leadership system and boundless tourism potentials of Bonny Kingdom, noting that these opportunities are critical for economic growth and social development, commending the people of Bonny for their ongoing support to the military in its quest to assure security in the area.

The Forward Operating Base Bonny is tasked with ensuring maritime domain awareness, proactive intelligence gathering and effective security management of the Gulf of Guinea security corridor which includes Bonny, Andoni and Opobo LGAs.
