An accident involving a trailer and several tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep, occurred on the night of Tuesday, May 5, 2026 along the Water side-Ogbor Hill axis of Aba, causing panic among residents and road users.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the trailer, which was heavily loaded with goods, reportedly suffered brake failure while descending the Waterside area. The driver subsequently lost control, ramming into multiple tricycles operating along the busy route.

Despite the severity of the incident, no loss of life was recorded. However, several tricycles were damaged, and some occupants were said to have sustained minor injuries.
The incident comes barely hours after another accident at Bata Junction in Aba, where a truck crashed into a newly constructed water fountain, further heightening concerns over the safety of heavy-duty vehicles operating within the city.
Residents at the scene called on relevant authorities to enforce stricter checks on the roadworthiness of trailers and other heavy vehicles plying roads across Abia State. They stressed the need for routine inspections and improved traffic regulation to prevent future occurrences.
Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as bystanders and road users worked to clear the affected vehicles, while normalcy was gradually restored later in the night.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident as of the time of filing this report.
