Private motor park operators in Umuahia have begun consultations with the Abia State Government following plans to relocate transport activities into newly constructed bus terminals nearing completion across the city.

The engagement session, led by the State Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Ukaegbu, created an avenue for transport stakeholders to understand the government’s plans and make inputs regarding the proposed transition.

Speaking during the meeting, Ukaegbu explained that the relocation forms part of broader reforms targeted at easing traffic congestion, strengthening commuter safety, and building a more organised and efficient transport system in the state capital.

He reassured operators that the relocation would be handled with transparency and cooperation, noting that government remains open to dialogue throughout the process.

“Our goal is not to disrupt businesses but to create a transport environment that benefits operators, commuters, and the entire city.

We will continue to engage stakeholders to ensure that no one is left behind in this transition,” the commissioner stated.

Representatives of the motor park operators welcomed the engagement and shared their expectations, urging government to provide adequate infrastructure and operational support within the new terminals to enable smooth business operations.

Ukaegbu reaffirmed government’s commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure a seamless migration process that ultimately benefits transport operators, commuters, and residents.

After the meeting, the operators were taken on an inspection tour of the terminal facilities, where officials further explained the government’s operational plans while also receiving additional feedback.

The exercise was attended by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Obioma Nwaogbe, officials of Planet Projects, and other members of the project implementation team.
