A statement on UPTH’s verified social media platforms on December 31, 2025, disclosed that following Prof. Ugboma’s exit, Professor Chituru Godwill Orluwene will assume office as the new Chief Medical Director effective January 1, 2026.

Prof. Ugboma handed over the reins of leadership in the institution to his successor, Prof. Orluwene on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
The statement further disclosed that Prof. Ugboma during his tenure, provided strategic direction and administrative leadership to the tertiary health institution.
He was credited with enhancing healthcare delivery, advancing medical training, and promoting research – the core mandates of the teaching hospital.

His tenure, according to the statement, also maintained relative institutional stability, with a strong focus on strengthening service delivery and professional capacity.
As the UPTH community welcomes Prof. Orluwene, the statement said his appointment is expected to usher in a new leadership phase for the institution, with emphasis on continuity, further development of healthcare services, research, and human capacity training.
